HP Pavilion Notebooks (HPQ)

Summary of Investigation: SFMS is currently investigating allegations that certain HP Pavilion Notebooks, including the dv1000 series, are experiencing problems. If the computer is used for any length of time, the bottom becomes very hot and the unit shuts down. Attempts to update the BIOS are not successful and many consumers are being told that the system board is faulty. Other reports include problems resulting from solder joints on the DC jack that are poorly designed and therefore readily damaged. The resulting problems include situations where the electrical and battery icons switch back and forth and the spontaneous and instantaneous power-downs of the laptop (especially when the AC power adapter plug is moved).
